HERE HE IS again, the Pied Piper of multicolor knitting, only this time Kaffe Fassett is accompanied by his faithful knitter of many years, Zoe Hunt, a designer in her own right. As the title implies, this book offers knitwear for children and parents: adorable little suspendered skirts for girls, rompers and dresses for baby and dozens of pullovers for all ages, sexes and sizes, each one knitted in masses of beautiful colors.

Knitters can avoid difficult color decisions by ordering some of the designs in kit form. Steve Lovi’s photographs are, as usual, pretty enough to eat. It’s a big, hefty book, which almost justifies the high price. ($35)
