Great Northern Rejects New Bid: Great Northern Nekoosa Corp. swiftly rejected a sweetened $3.6-billion takeover offer from lumber giant Georgia-Pacific Corp. Georgia-Pacific had raised its offer from $58 a share over the weekend. Great Northern Board Chairman William Laidig said the “modest increase” was still inadequate. The Norwalk, Conn.-based forest products company also rejected the earlier offer Oct. 31. Nekoosa has said it wants to remain independent and may take steps to enhance shareholder value.
