Group Seeks to Oust Pasadena Plaza Operator

Share

A Pasadena political group set up tables in the Plaza Pasadena shopping mall this week to gather support for its effort to have the city terminate its contract with the mall’s operator, the Hahn Co.

The group, Pasadena Citizens for Representative Government, hopes to gather enough signatures by Dec. 10 to persuade the Pasadena Board of Directors to support its lawsuit against the Hahn Co. The suit argues in part that the contract allowing the firm to run the mall should be terminated because of the firm’s alleged violation of civil rights, said Dale Gronemeier, the group’s attorney.

Members of the group were thrown out of the mall in 1985 when they attempted to gather signatures for a ballot initiative. The group later won access to the mall, but it was restricted from gathering signatures during the peak holiday shopping period from Dec. 15 to Dec. 26. The group is now trying to win expanded access rights.
