HEALTH : Pacemaker for Mother Teresa
CALCUTTA, India — Mother Teresa, who suffered a heart attack in September, will receive a pacemaker in an operation on Friday, her doctor said.
The 79-year-old Roman Catholic nun was taken to Woodlands Nursing Home Wednesday night, said Sister Dorothy, a member of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity.
Mother Teresa fell ill Wednesday hours after she met visitors for the first time since she left the nursing home Oct. 14, said Dr. Ashim Bardhan. He added that she was resting today and her condition was normal.
Mother Teresa, who won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, was hospitalized Sept. 5 and suffered a heart attack three days later. Her condition worsened until a temporary pacemaker stabilized her heart.
