Iraq Honors War Dead

BAGHDAD, Iraq —
This nation marked “Martyr Day” on Friday, commemorating the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who fell in its war with Iran.
Western military experts have estimated that Iran and Iraq suffered about 1 million dead in the war that started in September, 1980. A cease-fire ended the fighting in August, 1988.
