WORLD : Israelis Kill 5 Sinai Infiltrators
Israeli troops today shot and killed five guerrillas who infiltrated Israel from Egypt, the military said.
It said the clash occurred in the morning after the guerrillas crossed the border from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula into the western part of Israel’s southern Negev desert.
It was the first infiltration in nine months from Egypt, the only Arab country to have signed a peace treaty with Israel.
An Israeli force encountered the guerrillas, gave chase and killed them all without suffering any casualties, the army said.
An army official said the guerrillas carried at least 50 grenades.
