Former Thrift Head Indicted: A federal grand jury in Los Angeles indicted the former president of a now-defunct thrift, Westlake Thrift & Loan of Westlake Village, and four others on bank fraud charges. The 26-count indictment charges that the former president, Steven Smith, 46, helped secure $4 million in illegally obtained loans for Riverside businessman Walter Vladovich, 55, who was among those indicted, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Lawyers for Smith and Vladovich declined comment.
