The Saddleback Community College District has selected an Anaheim athletic director as its board president for 1990, officials announced Wednesday.

The seven-member board of trustees met Tuesday evening and cast secret ballots, tapping Joan J. Hueter, a Tustin resident who was first elected to the board in 1985. Hueter has served as vice president and clerk of the board, which oversees both Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College.

In a statement, Hueter thanked her colleagues and urged the board to tackle challenges facing the district.

“I would like to see the board spearhead the search for a site for a third campus in south Orange County,” she said.

In addition, Hueter said she would urge the board to increase the number of classes offered at the Saddleback campus in Mission Viejo and to add more full-time faculty members to that campus as well as the Irvine Valley facility.

Hueter, director of girls’ athletics at Katella High School in Anaheim, has taught physical education and coached girls’ sports there for 20 years.
