THE SIDELINES : Skier Eriksen Gets AT&T; Award

Stein Eriksen, a standard of skiing elegance for four decades, today was named recipient of the eighth annual AT&T; Award.

Eriksen, a native of Norway, won gold and silver medals in the 1952 Olympics and was a triple gold medalist at the World Championships two years later.

He emigrated to the United States in the fall of 1954, becoming director of skiing at Boyne Mountain in Michigan. He later left his signature on the skiing and teaching styles at Heavenly Valley; Aspen; Sugarbush, Vt.; Snowmass, Colo., and Park City, Utah. In the late 1970s, he helped develop Deer Valley Resort in Utah, where he is director of skiing.
