Triggerman Gets Life in Killing of 2 Agents

A heroin ring triggerman was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without parole for shooting to death two undercover federal drug agents and wounding a third during an ill-fated sting.

William Wang, 20, had faced a possible death sentence, but in a blow to prosecutors, jurors at the penalty phase of his trial decided in August to recommended the life term instead. Wang, a Taiwanese national who survived despite being shot eight times by other drug agents the day of the February, 1988, slayings, was formally sentenced by Superior Court Judge Gilbert Alston in Pasadena.

He was convicted of killing federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents George Montoya, 34, and Paul Seema, 52, who were gunned down Feb. 5, 1988 during an ill-fated sting operation aimed at breaking up a Thai drug ring.
