Killer Tells of Murder, Gets 25 Years to Life
The confessed killer of a Garden Grove woman was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison Thursday after telling his version of the slaying for the first time.
Cameron Seaholm, 22, pleaded guilty in September to the first-degree murder of Denise Duerr, 21, whose body was found in Riverside County in April.
During sentencing before Superior Court Judge Dennis Myers, Seaholm described the ice-pick slaying in a version heard by the court for the first time.
“He told how he went in the garage of the residence where the murder occurred expecting to hit the victim over the head,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Daniel C. Lough. “But when he attempted to do that, she turned and saw him so he stabbed her to death. Then, he raped her.”
Seaholm could have faced life in prison without parole if he had been convicted of the rape charge.
A man walking a dog found Duerr’s partially clothed body April 19 in a canyon near Corona, just east of the Orange County line.
The day after the body was discovered, Seaholm was arrested at his stepfather’s house at Lake Elsinore, where Duerr’s car was found. Duerr and Seaholm, both of Garden Grove, had been friends since high school.
