Claudia Strobl of Austria recorded her first World Cup victory, overtaking first-run leader Karin Buder in a women’s slalom at Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Strobl survived an apparent disqualification after the first run, successfully protesting a decision that she had left the start house too late.

Strobl, who was second after the first run and trailed teammate Buder by 12-hundredths of a second, had a nearly flawless second run in 44.93 seconds for a combined time of 1:30.53 seconds.
