H. J. Heinz Co.: The packaged-foods company reported a 14% increase in second-quarter net profit, compared to the same period in 1988. Earnings for the quarter were $125.4 million on sales of $1.5 billion. Overall sales were up 7.5% over the prior year. The Pittsburgh company credited both increased volume and prices. Volume was up for tuna, frozen potatoes and Weight Watchers frozen meals.
