ANAHEIM : Chopper Enthusiasts Give Record a Whirl
Sponsors of an attempt to break the world helicopter endurance record--and the national hovering record--announced Tuesday that they will make the attempt in Anaheim Stadium beginning this morning.
RotorHeads, a group of local helicopter enthusiasts, and organizers of the record attempt said they will lift off about 10 a.m., shortly after a local Catholic priest blesses the antique helicopter and sets it on a 52-hour voyage that will never leave the stadium. The previous record, set unofficially by Navy pilots in 1952, had a helicopter aloft for 47 hours.
Sponsors of the record attempt hope to raise $250,000 through corporate sponsorship. Money will go to the Lestonnac Clinic in Orange.
