WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : Police Open Fire on Strikers; 50 Injured

South African police fired on striking black transport workers in Cape Town, injuring 50, officials said. A bomb exploded on a railway line, forcing cancellation of morning rush hour trains. Another 1,073 workers were fired by the state-run South African Transport Services, raising the total fired in the six-week strike to 12,617. About 20,000 workers walked out Nov. 2, demanding a higher minimum wage and recognition of their union.
