NATION : Wind Chill of 50 Below Zero as Snow and Cold Punch Plains
Wicked northwest winds whipped snow and Arctic air into the north-central states today, spawning subzero temperatures across most of the northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley and wind chill indexes of 50 degrees below zero.
Frigid temperatures were expected to continue this weekend as massive Arctic high pressure settled into the northern and central Plains.
In north-central Wyoming, it was snowing so hard in the Big Horn Mountains that the Antelope Butte ski resort couldn’t open this weekend as planned because roads to the resort were blocked.
A snow and blowing snow advisory was issued for the north and central mountains in Colorado today after 18 inches of snow fell near Vail Pass.
