Gillette to Cut Jobs, Sell Units: Gillette Co. said it would cut 750 staff, sell some European toiletry units and reorganize its U.S. operations as part of a long campaign by the world’s leading shaving products maker to boost profitability. The top razor and blade maker said it would reorganize its U.S. shaving and personal products businesses into one group and cut 750 jobs, a third of them in North America, from its 30,000-strong payroll. Boston-based Gillette began restructuring after two costly battles against takeovers in the mid-1980s.
