Meaning of Christmas

In Dr. Seuss’ classic children’s book, the Grinch “stole Christmas” on Christmas Eve, but how can one steal a holiday that has not even started? While the article (Dec. 1) points out an absurd situation (yes, it should be legal to sell trees on the Fourth of July), it also shows that secular humanists have turned Christmas into a holiday of greed.

The Christmas season is from Dec. 25 until Jan. 6, not Nov. 1 until Dec. 26. I am insulted by people who celebrate two months of food and presents and call it Christmas (which comes from “Christ’s Mass”). If people want to be taken in by the merchants and spend all that time rushing around trying to outdo each other in expensive gifts, that is their business, but they should find a different name for it.
