P.M. BRIEFING : Hawaii Radio Stations to Be Sold
Former Hawaii Congressman Cecil Heftel said Tuesday night that his Heftel Broadcasting Corp. plans to sell radio station KSSK-AM and its FM sister station in Honolulu.
Heftel Broadcasting owns several other Spanish-language radio stations in Los Angeles and is involved in Spanish-language media-related ventures in Miami.
Heftel’s announcement said that because he has reached retirement age and is concentrating on Spanish-language ventures on the mainland, it is getting more difficult for him to give the Hawaii stations the attention they deserve.
“This appears to be the propitious time to sell, so I can concentrate my efforts on our mainland operations, where 95% of our assets are located,” the announcement said.
