Divers have found one of two Japanese suicide submarines missing off the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar since World War II, Radio Madagascar said.

A team of experts and divers from Japan and Madagascar found the 80-foot submarine in the Bay of Antsiranana (formerly called Diego Suarez) at the northern tip of Madagascar last weekend, the radio reported.

The submarines were deployed in the area in May, 1942, to attack French and British warships. Their two or three-man crews were supposed to use the vessels as piloted torpedoesto ram enemy warships on suicide missions.
