Tennessee Women’s Basketball Team Concludes Trip With Game Against USC

The Tennessee women’s basketball team will wind up what center Daedra Charles called a “mentally and physically exhausting” trip through California tonight with a 7:30 game against USC at the Lyon Center on campus.

The Volunteers, ranked No. 4 nationally after losing to Stanford to begin the four-game swing, figure to drop further after losing Tuesday night to No. 8 Cal State Long Beach.

A lopsided victory over UCLA did not deter Tennessee’s Pat Summitt from saying that poor decisions by her coaching staff are at least in part responsible for the defending national champions’ recent failures on the court. Tennessee is 6-3.

USC (2-1) hasn’t played since losing by 31 points to No. 13 Nevada Las Vegas on Dec. 9.

Leading the Trojans has been senior forward Tammy Hammond, who has averaged 17 points.
