WORLD : 2 Retired Generals Charged
Rebellion charges were filed today against two retired brigadier generals in connection with the recent coup attempt against President Corazon Aquino.
The charges against Felix Brawner and Jaime Echeverria were brought before assistant prosecutor Dennis Villa-Ignacio for preliminary investigation beginning Jan. 5.
Villa-Ignacio will decide if the charges merit formal trial.
The rebellion charges against Brawner and Echeverria were the first brought against participants in the Dec. 1-7 rebellion that left 119 people dead and nearly toppled Aquino.
Rebellion carries a penalty ranging from six months to 12 years in prison.
