Amgen Seeks OK on Cancer Drug: Amgen, the Thousand Oaks biotechnology concern, has filed for Food and Drug Administration approval to sell a promising biotech drug that could help fight bacterial infections in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Amgen’s drug is granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), which triggers production of white blood cells and could also help treat infections in bone marrow and AIDS patients. Several rival companies are developing their own white blood cell drugs, and analysts estimate that the market for this group of biotech drugs could hit $400 million a year by 1993.
