LAGUNA NIGUEL : Crown Valley Pool Closed Until Spring

Crown Valley Community Park’s $1.2-million pool-refurbishing project will not be complete nor the pools open for swimmers until spring, Kerry Bartelt, parks and recreation manager for Laguna Niguel, said Friday.

The former 25-meter-by-25-yard aluminum pool is being expanded to 25 yards by 34 meters and replaced with Gunite, the traditional swimming pool material. The deep end will be increased to 14 feet to accommodate a diving platform. Four diving boards, two high dives and two low dives, will also be placed at the deep end.

The pool’s other end will be shallower than at present, and the middle of the pool will be deepened for synchronized swimming, Bartelt said.

The park’s wading pool will be lengthened by 10 feet and made shallower. A new filtering system, new decking and a shaded gazebo area will also be installed.

Bartelt said the cost of using the pool--$50 for an adult annual pass or $1.50 per day--will most likely remain the same. There may be an adjustment on charges for family passes, however, she said.

Ground breaking at the park started in the late 1970s and the pool opened in the early 1980s, Bartelt said. The pool has been closed since April.
