A 22-year-old security company dispatcher was shot and killed Thursday by a bullet accidentally fired by a fellow security guard, authorities said.

Valencia Scott, 22, of Compton was shot once in the abdomen at 6:35 a.m. at 12340 S. Wadsworth St., sheriff’s Deputy George Ducoulombier said. She died about an hour later at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center.

Ducoulombier said Scott was just finishing her shift for the Hayes Protective Agency at the Ujima Village Apartments when Kevin Scott, no relation, 24, of Bellflower began his shift. “He was talking to the dispatcher and while he was in the security office, Kevin removed and began inspecting his gun,” Ducoulombier said. The deputy said that during the inspection, a round discharged, striking the woman in the abdomen.
