Our readers wrote letters throughout 1989 expressing their viewpoints on a variety of issues. Here are condensed versions of some of those letters. We appreciate their taking the time to share their viewpoints and look forward to hearing from more of them in 1990.

Being one of the “boat people” a few years back and now a U.S. citizen, I am very proud of my adopted country, the United States, as the country with the greatest history of immigration.

Our ancestors, as well as our people today, have welcomed millions of immigrants from poor countries, war-torn lands and even former enemy countries, to come over here to fulfill their American dreams. Because this is the land of freedom and opportunities we are proud to call ourselves Americans.
