From Times Staff and Wire Reports

In Atlanta, center of an investigation of bombings that killed a judge and a lawyer last month, about 200 people attended an NAACP program commemorating the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. Police stood guard outside the church and agents of the FBI, Georgia state and Atlanta police searched everyone at the door for weapons and explosives, but none was found and the gathering was peaceful. The security precautions were added after an Atlanta television station received a letter claiming responsibility for the mail bombs and warning that two NAACP members would be killed.
