Radio Duo Berger, Prescott Join the Competition

Mike Berger and Jeff Prescott, a staple of top-rated KGB-FM’s (101.5) morning line-up, have left the station to join rock ‘n’ roll rival XTRA-FM (91X).

Wednesday was Berger and Prescott’s last day on the air with KGB, said Tom Baker, the station’s general manager.

They are expected to start at 91X Jan. 15, joining comedian Russ T. Nailz, who has been the focus of the 91X morning show for the past year.

The move will put 91X into more direct competition with KGB, which features more of a traditional rock sound than 91X, which has billed itself as the “cutting edge of rock” since switching formats in 1983. But in recent months there has been a perception that 91X has been slowly adding more traditional rock songs to its play list.

With a wacky mix of characters, skits and comment, Berger and Prescott have been among the city’s top-rated morning shows for the past three years. Prescott had been with the station for more than 10 years, Berger for six years.
