The U.S. military intervention in Panama “cannot be understood as a valid act of a civilized nation,” says the head of the United Methodist Church’s national social action agency.

“Unilateral intervention, no matter its validity, can never be supported,” says the Rev. Thom White Wolfe Fassett, general secretary of the Board of Church and Society.

“In order to validate such action it would have been necessary for the United States to press its claims to the Organization of American States or to the United Nations and receive support.”
