PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Slayback Uses His Head to Pace Laguna Hills

Brian Slayback scored three goals--all on headers--to lead Laguna Hills past Laguna Beach, 6-0, in a Pacific Coast League soccer match Friday at Laguna Beach.

Slayback has 15 goals this season for the Hawks (11-3 overall, 4-1 in league). Scott Clark, Doug Barnes and Juan Strutton also scored, and goalkeeper Kirk Brown had six saves in his third shutout of the season.

Orange 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Goalkeeper Tres Martin had four saves in his fifth shutout of the season and the visiting Panthers (8-0-2, 5-0) finished the first round of league play in first place. Justin Zayas, Jason Smith and Tim Huhn each scored for Orange.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 3, El Dorado 0--Darren Willis, Joe Chavez and Ray Klug scored for host Cypress (10-1-2). Goalie Mike Roth had seven saves for El Dorado.

Esperanza 7, Loara 1--Mike Voss had two goals and two assists to lead host Esperanza (9-2-3). Loara dropped to 1-13, 0-1.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Rey Iriarte had two goals and Kyong Kim one to lead visiting Kennedy (4-3-1, 2-1-1). Robert Tantardini had 15 saves for Bolsa Grande, now 1-1-1 in league play.

La Quinta 2, Rancho Alamitos 2--Tom Green and Greg Yutani scored for La Quinta (5-6-4, 1-0-3).

In nonleague matches:

Canyon 1, Sunny Hills 0--Danny Thomas scored five minutes into the game to lead host Canyon (7-5-1). Sunny Hills is 7-2-2. Canyon’s Chris Snitko had nine saves.

University 4, Western 1--Seth Redford scored twice in the second half for University (6-3-1) at home. Paul Simon and Danny Vo scored to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In an Angelus League girls’ match:

Mater Dei 4, Rosary 0--Diana Awadallah had two goals for visiting Mater Dei (9-2-1, 3-0-0). Kim Donahue and Robyn Camarillo also scored for the Monarchs. Helen Baron had eight saves for Rosary (4-6-2, 0-2-1).
