Grand Metropolitan PLC, the British food and liquor giant, said today it has met with a number of parties over the possible sale of its brewing interests.

But Grand Met, which owns Pillsbury Co. of the United States, said it also is considering a variety of other options to meet the recommendations of last year’s Monopolies and Mergers Commission report, which said brewers should be allowed to operate only 2,000 public houses, or pubs.

Grand Met, which has 5,000 public houses, said, “We are looking at our brewing interest to see how we can conform to the MMC report. But selling our brewing interests is only one option, and no decisions have yet been made.”

Grand Met brews a number of brands under license for a range of international companies, including Elders’ Fosters lager.
