China Drops Barter System With Poland
China is ending its barter trade arrangements with Poland and is discussing a similar move with Hungary, the China Daily said Sunday.
The newspaper said all trade with Poland this year will be for cash.
East European diplomats said barter trade is losing its appeal as market-oriented economic reforms are implemented in East Bloc countries.
A trade protocol between China and Poland called for bilateral barter trade totaling $650 million in 1989. China exports rice, tea, corn, textiles and chemical products to Poland and imports steel, mining equipment and cars.
