From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Tom Cruise never complained as he slept on the ground, dug foxholes and went without showers during filming of “Born on the Fourth of July,” says an actor who played alongside the star.

Ben Wright, 20, of Carmel has a small role in the movie about Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic’s struggle of coming home from the war as a paraplegic.

Wright said Cruise was one of the boys in the weeks of training by Marines.

“We were digging foxholes. Cruise was digging right beside us. He went all out and did everything we did,” Wright said.
