PRIVATE LINES: The thousands in Orange County who use cordless telephones in the home and office have no right to expect their calls to be protected from radio eavesdropping, the U.S. Supreme Court rules (A1). But a spokesman for Sony Corp. says the next generation of cordless phones will transmit calls using digital technology, “and that would be relatively easy to encrypt to discourage overhearing.” . . . Such phones are being used in the United Kingdom and could be available in the U.S. within “two or three years.”
