SAN CLEMENTE : Developers to Vie for Home Permits

Share

Five developers begin competing tonight for the 500 home-building permits allowed annually under a 1986 growth-management law in the first of several public hearings before the Planning Commission.

The developers have submitted nine plans showing a total of 949 homes. In hearings before the commission and the City Council, that number will be whittled down to 500, based on how well the proposals meet city criteria.

In the past three years, some developers have received all the permits they requested, some have requests have been partially granted and some have been denied permits. Of this year’s proposals, 219 homes are holdovers from last year, according to planning division records.

The growth law stems from a voter initiative on the 1986 city ballot.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 100 Avenida Presidio.
