Aiding Homeless Writers

The following are projects created to aid homeless writers in Southern California:

The Homeless Writers Coalition is seeking contributions to establish a storefront for Skid Row writers. For information, write 4522 1/2 W. 64th St., Los Angeles 90043 or call (213) 663-5040.

* The Pipeline “Visions” project, which sponsors poetry readings and other arts projects on Skid Row, is funded by a $10,000 grant from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, which is seeking matching grants. For information, call (213) 629-2205.

* The national homeless-advocacy organization Share Our Strength, in conjunction with the Southern California Booksellers Assn., will hold readings by homeless and established writers in Los Angeles bookstores, the week of Feb. 11. Proceeds from the book “Louder Than Words,” an anthology of writings dedicated to the homeless, will go to Share Our Strength and contributions will be made to the Homeless Writers Coalition. * St. Josephs Center in Venice, a multiservice center serving the homeless, publishes their writing in its occasional journal, “Venice Voices.” For information, call (213) 396-6468.
