Kenyon College basketball Coach Bill Brown used drugs the day his team was to play Wittenberg and subsequently checked himself into a Cleveland drug treatment center.

The Columbus, Ohio, Dispatch reported that Brown called his wife, Christy, from outside Gambier, Ohio, on Jan. 3 to inform her that he had used an unidentified drug and would not be going to that night’s game.

Assistant Coach Erick Piscopo has been named interim coach for the rest of the season, making him one of the country’s youngest coaches at 25.

Brown was charged with possession of cocaine in July, 1987, in Sacramento. He had been coach at Cal State Sacramento for 1 1/2 years until resigning midway through the 1986-87 season for what was called stress-related health problems.
