Courageous Professor Is Ahead of His Time

Share

Comedian/director Woody Allen once commented that while one could inherit wealth, looks, status and perhaps intellect, one could not inherit courage. Courage one earns by one’s life actions and is a noble virtue.

Dr. Ned Buyukmihci is indeed a courageous man, and he has earned my respect by his actions on behalf of animals, especially in the context of their utilization as a tool of medical research experimentation and his protest of same (“U.C. Davis’ Dr. No,” Jan. 3). It takes great courage to buck the status quo in one’s profession, and he risks his status and financial security, an action few people take.
