COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Simmons Sets School Record as La Salle Defeats Irish, 86-78

Lionel Simmons scored 27 points and became La Salle’s all-time leading scorer as the 21st-ranked Explorers defeated Notre Dame, 86-78, at Philadelphia Friday night.

Simmons surpassed the school record of 2,628 points by Michael Brooks, who played from 1976-80.

Doug Overton also scored 27 points for La Salle (10-1). LaPhonso Ellis led Notre Dame (7-5) with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Keith Robinson added 18 points for the Fighting Irish.

La Salle led, 45-43, at halftime and never trailed in the second half. The Explorers committed only three turnovers, while Notre Dame had 12.

Yale 39, Princeton 37--Stuart Davies scored a layup with two seconds left to give the Bulldogs (9-3, 1-0) their sixth win in a row in an Ivy League game at New Haven, Conn.

Dean Campbell scored 12 points to lead Yale. Princeton is 9-4 and 1-1.
