Southern California Housing Prices Up 11%: Prices are up. Sales are down. That in a nutshell describes the 1989 Southern California housing market compared to 1988, according to TRW Real Estate Information Services. The average price paid for a residence in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties was $199,480 during 1989, up from the $179,429 paid during 1988. But the number of homes sold during the year in the five-county area dropped to 314,606 in 1989, down 11% from 1988. Sales were down 24% in Orange, 15% in Los Angeles and San Diego counties, while jumping 22% in Riverside County and 5% in San Bernardino County.
