Athletic Foundation Awards $748,000

The foundation charged with disbursing surplus funds from the 1984 Olympics to groups that serve Southern California youths has approved grants and programs totaling $748,000 for the winter quarter, bringing to $27 million the total given out during the last five years.

The largest grant, announced this week by the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, was the $150,000 gift to the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles, serving Eastside communities, for repair and renovation of its gymnasium. California Special Olympics Inc. received $148,600 for community sports training centers in Los Angeles, Pomona, Idyllwild, Orange County and the San Fernando Valley.

Youth sports groups may apply for grants at the foundation headquarters at 2141 W. Adams Blvd. in Los Angeles.
