A UC Irvine molecular biology instructor received a $200,000 MacArthur Foundation grant to study insects that transmit diseases.

Anthony James, an assistant professor of molecular biology and biochemistry, is scheduled to study genetic differences among disease-carrying insects. By understanding what genetic traits the insects have, James hopes to discover more about how they infect people.

The money comes from the John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
