NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Anti-Semitic Acts Up 12%, Report Says

Anti-Semitic incidents in the nation rose almost 12% in 1989, and the number of cases attributed to neo-Nazi skinheads took a 180% leap to 116, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith said in New York. The 1,432 incidents were the most reported in the 11 years that the league has tallied them. There were 845 cases of vandalism, including five bombings, four of which were in California. Assaults or threats against Jews or Jewish institutions jumped 28%, to 587, and included the killing of a Holocaust survivor who was slain in Brooklyn when he accused a man of drawing a swastika on his door.
