Hamilton Will Stay With XTRA

Lee Hamilton, voice of the Chargers on XTRA (690), announced on his nightly sports talk show Wednesday that he has agreed to a new two-year contract.

Hamilton, whose first three-year deal was ending, said he considered leaving about a week ago.

“The talks almost collapsed between John Lynch (XTRA’s owner) and myself,” Hamilton said. “I had about six different things going on. But the reason I stayed was because my heart didn’t tell me it was time go.”

Hamilton also announced that starting Monday, the beginning of his three-hour show will be moved up an hour, from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Major Indoor Soccer League and ESPN have signed a two-year deal for the sports cable network to show nine games on a tape-delayed basis this season and 10 more in 1990-91, the league announced.

The schedule will include three regular-season games, five playoff games and begin with a Feb. 22 broadcast of the All-Star Game to be played at the San Diego Sports Arena Feb. 21.

The regular-season telecasts of games played the previous week will be shown on three successive Tuesday afternoons in April. The playoff games will be shown on a same-day, tape-delayed basis beginning at midnight.
