Water-Saving Idea

Regarding the editorial (Jan. 7), which spoke to “Action Needed to Save Water” and the fact that, though the subject is much talked about, the rate of change is fairly nonexistent.

As a citizen of North County, I would propose that one very effective way to begin this conservation and with fairly little effort--or legislation--would be to compel county restaurants to lead the way by not serving water to everyone patronizing their place of business.

Many patrons do not even touch the water and yet it must then be tossed out--not even to be used in washing dishes, mopping floors, or watering plants, I would assume.

This easy practice would also bring about a great deal of public awareness in a rather short time--if, indeed, all restaurants were to comply.

I, for one, “just say no” when the waitress brings unwanted water to my table.
