Raiders Let Assistant Shop for Job

Share

The last of Mike Shanahan’s appointees, offensive line coach Alex Gibbs, has been given the Raiders’ permission to interview with other teams.

Gibbs spoke with the Chargers Wednesday. He also discussed a job with the Atlanta Falcons.

Gibbs is a highly-regarded coach, who came from Denver with Shanahan. He came with the additional title of assistant head coach and was given a three-year contract, rare for an assistant.

Gibbs and Art Shell were co-coaches of the line. Gibbs took a few days after Shanahan was fired--and Shell was promoted to head coach--to decide if he wanted to remain.

The only other Shanahan appointees have been fired--running back coach Nick Nicolau last season, and special teams coach Pete Rodriguez after this season’s end.
