WORLD : Greeks Throw Eggs at Albanian
Greek demonstrators hurled eggs at a visiting senior Albanian Foreign Ministry official today and called for the overthrow of his hard-line Communist government.
Half a dozen eggs thrown by people in a crowd of 100 outside the Greek Foreign Ministry hit bodyguards of Albanian Foreign Undersecretary Sokrat Plaka as he was whisked inside for talks.
Protesters chanted, “Down with the Albanian regime!” and carried banners calling for the overthrow of the government of Communist strongman Ramiz Alia.
Plaka is on an official visit to smooth relations after recent sharp diplomatic exchanges between the two neighboring countries over the fate of 400,000 ethnic Greeks in Albania. He returns home Saturday.
