Loans to China May Resume: The World Bank, which halted lending to China following Beijing’s bloody crackdown on a pro-democracy movement in June, is expected to resume lending to the country next Thursday, bank sources and monetary officials said. World Bank President Barber B. Conable Jr. has been pressing for the loans, arguing that the people of China, rather than their government, are being hurt by the lending freeze.
