KEEPING UP: The cartoons of William Hamilton, which chronicle the foibles of the yupscale and nouveau riche , begin today in Life (N6). . . . In addition to his weekly cartoon “Keeping Up,” Hamilton (above, in a drawing he calls “Depicting Self”) is a novelist and playwright. . . . A New Yorker now packing for a move to Southern California, Hamilton says when thinking of Orange County he’d imagine a color photograph of “wealthy people, standing on boats in dark glasses and billed caps,” although he acknowledges “I don’t think I’ve ever drawn anything like that. Most of the people I draw wear ties.”
