Pan Am Hints at Deal With Northwest: Pan American World Airways is indicating that it may announce a deal with Northwest Airlines, the subject of a bidding war that Pan Am lost to investor Alfred Checchi last year, a union official said. William F. Genoese, director of the Teamsters airline division, said Pan Am management had leaked word that a major announcement--probably a deal with Northwest--will come out of its board meeting Tuesday.
